How to buy sumo tickets as a foreigner

There is an official English sumo ticket site — the hard part is that tournaments sell out quickly.

Hard Typical buying difficulty for visitors

The short version

Seats and prices

Per the official guide: masu-seki (floor box seats for four) cost roughly ¥34,000–¥42,000 per box for the B/C grades, and chair seats roughly ¥3,500–¥5,500 each for the B/C grades; weekends and holidays cost more. Prices vary by venue and a handling fee applies.

How the English site worked last January

For the January 2026 tournament, Ticket Oosumo English was credit card only, charged a ¥2,000 service fee per ticket, and tickets could only be printed at a 7-Eleven in Japan. Bought tickets could not be changed or refunded. Doors opened at 8:45 on most days; bouts run from morning to about 6 p.m., and one re-entry was allowed (back by 17:00). Expect similar rules for 2027, but check the site.

Resale warning

The organiser prohibits unauthorised resale and transfer, and may refuse entry to tickets bought for resale or unauthorised tour packages.
